English Communication for Newcomers is a 10-week language-learning program designed to help newcomers build practical English listening and speaking skills while fostering confidence, connection, and community engagement.

Using films, music, stories, and real-world conversations, participants strengthen their communication abilities in a supportive and interactive environment. The program focuses on everyday English, helping participants feel more comfortable navigating life, work, education, and community settings in Canada.

About the Instructor

Mohammad Soleyman-Nejad is a PhD candidate in Psychology at the University of Manitoba and a sessional instructor at both the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg. Drawing on his experience as an educator, researcher, and immigrant, he creates supportive learning environments that help newcomers build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and engage more fully in their communities.

This program aligns with Ember Rise’s commitment to inclusion, lifelong learning, community engagement, and newcomer well-being by creating accessible opportunities for language development, social connection, and meaningful participation in community life.
